Legless 6 years old became a wrestling champion
A viral video has circulated social media that teaches us about the importance of our health and the hope in even the smallest of bodies. In a little over a month since its upload on Facebook, the video has garnered over 6 million views and around 180,000 shares; inspiring countless of netizens and people from all walks of life.
Isaiah Bird is a 6-year-old boy that was born with a defect that left him legless. Aside from that, he lives in a shelter at a Glen Cove Church with his mother and brother. Due to their destitution, they couldn't afford a wheelchair for Isaiah, which resulted in the young boy getting around on his hands.
Coach Miguel Rodriguez saw potential and strength in Isaiah so he suggested that the boy gave wrestling a try. "Wrestling is a sport where you don't really need legs to be an athlete," the coach says.
The young wrestler from Long Beach has proven that even with poverty, you can still go places. He won so many matches this year that he has qualified for the State tournament.
